Statement in support of adults living in the community

Written Material

This statement revolves around 3 themes, each of which challenges current service systems. The first theme revolves around the need and right of people to live in a place of their choice and separate from service provision. The second theme emphasises the critical importance of supports, personal assistance services and self determination in ensuring home and community participation. Lastly, there is a move from a narrow view of community living as 'housing' and 'support', to a broader definition of communities, community issues and participation. Note: This is an extract from Racino, J.A. "Living in the community: independence, support and transition", File No. 10683. Keyword: Accommodation
