The Future of the Disabled in Liberal Society: An Ethical Analysis

Rather than using the medical paradigm (a paradigm which sees people with disability as ‘problems’), Reinders looks at the issue of genetics and prevention from the perspective of people with disability themselves. Reinders raises questions such as whether genetic testing paves the way for a form of biological perfectionism that is dangerous to people whose bodies are deemed imperfect. This opens up the question of how we equate genetic testing with the current paradigm – which sees people with disability as deserving of the same rights and respect as other members of the community.
