Obtaining evidence from people with an intellectual disability – the right to be heard
This paper argues that the protection and enhancement of the rights of people with intellectual disabilities ought increasingly to engage them with society’s systems of justice. it explores our systems of justice and how they can be put to the test of ensuring fair participation by people with disabilities. The conclusion of the paper is that our community’s systems of justice are a last frontier, and it provides recommendations on changing the system so that it supports the right to be heard for people with intellectual disabilities.
