Written Material

Both Sides of the Coin

Dennis Tetreau writes of his experiences both as a father and as a school principal. Despite his belief in inclusive education, he held fears for his son Kyle, as he commenced school. He acknowledges that in his desire to see Kyle fit in and be accepted, he set his expectations for Kyle too low. Fortunately, school staff helped him to focus on Kyle’s abilities and achievements. Tetreau also emphasises the importance of giving positive feedback to families. This encourages parents’ involvement in setting higher and more significant goals for their child. This way, he says, “everyone experiences the joy of success.” Keywords: Education, School age. Searchword: Professionals
