An invitation to assembly

This is a ‘parent centred’ story which talks about the significance of inclusive education for a mother. When her daughter attended a segregated school, she also felt that she wasn’t welcomed or accepted into the local community (defined as different sets and forms of relationships). The other strength of the article is that she openly discusses the personal change that she had to go through in her battle to get her daughter included; her world was literally turned upside down, but she writes “Was it worth it? By God it was! I would never have imagined how good it is for me and Kate now”. She also makes a poignant closing comment, that until all children are accepted, her daughter’s future will remain uncertain despite her inclusion. Keyword: Inclusion
