Finding Friends

A short account by Patricia, the mother of Jane who has a disability, describes how she assisted her daughter with coping with a difficult period in her life. In the midst of other life changes Jane had to fit into a new neighbourhood. Patricia was concerned that Jane’s behaviour was jeopardising her status in the community. She set about creating a neighbourhood awareness program by talking to the local children. Through employing two local young people to spend time with Jane, Patricia managed to form a network of friends for her. Keyword: Friendship
