In this potent article, a mother reflects on her commitment to her daughter and to people with disability in general. Despite changes over the years, she finds that families (including her own) are still having to fight for the same things. She also expresses concern that not enough value is placed on the role of families: rather than responding to the needs of families in supporting their family member, the disability field is instead becoming bureaucratised and inflexible.
