Book

Moving to the dance or Service culture and community care

This book includes a policy statement from Values into Action, UK, setting out the direction in which services for people who have disabilities must move. It is the result of the author’s visit to America where he observed a profound shift in outlook and a new way of thinking which makes ‘models of care’ redundant. People living in ordinary houses are unlikely to make connections with the community – each day different parts of a service system envelopes them almost completely. The book describes the general picture at the moment and presents the picture of the future we must strive for, which emphasises true community participation for people.
