Using natural supports in the workplace

Rosemary Lawn, Manager of PE Personnel in Perth, begins this paper by discussing the blurred lines between “supported” and “competitive” employment – some people in competitive employment receive ongoing support just as those in supported employment. She suggests employment is about wages, inclusion, and whatever support is necessary. The aim of the paper is to discuss using natural job supports found in the workplace to avoid open employment being an extension of disability services which are externally imposed on natural work environments. This can be done by using co-workers, with the agency staff being consultant to the employer rather than the employee.
