This book was conceived as a resource for human service personnel to examine their perceptions of what it means to be disabled and in turn examine their associated practices. The book introduces us to both the breadth and complexities of working in an area where the lives of people are at stake, particularly by including personal experiences of both a family as well as people with disabilities themselves. The book is divided into five sections: Sociological Implications of Disability; Philosophical Implications of Disability; Service Development; Management and Leadership of Human Services and Quality of Life. Also included are discussion topics and study questions specifically aimed at small groups and personal reflection. Keywords: Families, Professionals, Theory
